Valentine's Day Shooters

Simple can be sexy and delicious. This is a spin off of the old trifle, a layered dessert that ends with a whipped topping. Trifles were the rage in the '60's and '70s. I still love a rich trifle but now I like mine drizzled with booze.

You can make these the morning of Valentine's Day and leave them in the refrigerator until you're ready for dessert.

Let's put these mini trifle or shooters together, you'll need:

2 squares of brownies (3" x 3") or any baked goodies.

4 tbsp of melted strawberry preserves

7 strawberries (minced) - reserve one to slice in heart shapes for on top

Whipped cream

4 tbsp of Chambord (optional)

Cut the brownies into small cubes and pour the Chambord over them. Chambord was created for King Louis XIV in 1685 when he visited the Chateau of the same name in France. It’s produced in the Loire Valley and is always made from a gleaming mixture of raspberries, honey, vanilla and cognac. This gives the shooter a boozy and yummy bite. This is optional, if your making these for young ones, skip this step.

Put the brownies in the bottom of a short juice glass or tall narrow glass. Drizzle some of the melted strawberry preserves over the brownies. Top with a fluff of whipped cream and place the chopped strawberries last. Repeat the layers until you reach the top of the glass.

A cloud of whipped cream tops off this shooter and heart shaped strawberries are placed for decorations.

Note: heart shaped strawberries are slices with a small triangle cut in the top of the slice.

A cordial of Chambord brings everything together nicely or a chilled port wine.

Enjoy!
