How to Safely Cut Acorn Squash

Do you cherish your fingers as much as I do? Then you need to read this blog, the easy way to cut acorn squash or butternut squash and SAVE YOUR FINGERS.

Winter squash is delicious and easy to cook. The difficult part is cutting it without an injury. I speak from experience, ask my daughter Nicole. She had to drive me to the emergency department the day I got a new cleaver. Let's just say, the score is - squash one, me zero!

NOT ANY MORE! I found the secret to cutting acorn and butternut squash. Carefully cut the bottom of the squash so that it's stable on your cutting board. (Butternut squash, just cut a little off the side)

If you want, you can remove the skin now or wait until later. I like to remove it when it's softer and easier to work with. Puncture the squash with a fork and put it in the microwave for 30 seconds. It will not explode but makes it easier to cut! Who knew?? You can "nuke it" up to 45 seconds if need be to make your cutting experience more enjoyable.

Once softer, you can peel and cut without a problem.

Next time you struggle with a squash, think of me and say.. "not today squash, you're mine!"
